McCORMICK DEERING 10 – 20 – c. 1928

The 10/20 was built from 1923 to 1939 at the International Illinois, USA factory and replaced the International 8/16. Initially priced at $US785 to compete with the low-priced Fordson, it was a great success selling 215,551 units over 16 years of production. The popularity eventually dropped off with the release of the W30 tractor. They were originally painted grey with red wheels until “International Red” was introduced in 1936. Pneumatic tyres were also available as an option from1933.

Technical Specifications:   4-cylinder, 4-stroke, OHV, 284cu” kerosene powered engine. Bore 4.25” and stroke 5” developing 24.8hp at the drawbar and 19.6hp at the belt, at 1025rpm. Gears: 3 forward speeds and 1 reverse.  The motor had a two-bearing crankshaft using roller bearings. Weight 4010lbs.

History: Hugh purchased this machine from Rod Sprigg of Boyup Brook who had started his own vintage tractor collection, but because of unseen circumstances, he had to sell his machinery. Hugh knew about the collection because he had attended a Field Day on the farm which had been advertised in the Countryman. 

This tractor has been partly restored but needs more work. Being mounted on steel wheels it is not an easy machine to handle. A lot of care should be taken when cranking the engine as it can ‘kick like a mule!”
