Roseberry Drag Saw - 1920

NEW RECORD DRAG SAW 2HP – c. 1920

Australia Flag

The New Record drag saws were made by New Record Machinery Company of West Melbourne, using a Roseberry 2hp Hit & Miss engine. They were mainly used to cross-cut felled logs. Some were rebadged with the New Record name & made at Rosebery N.S.W. The 2hp engine was a copy of the Fuller Johnson engine from the USA. In that era, rpm was governed via bob weights that would operate linkages to latch the exhaust valve open and the engine would slow down owing to having no compression. Once slowed to the pre-set lower speed then the process would be reversed, hence the “Hit & Miss” terminology. Ignition was supplied from a Wico EK magneto.
