The Museum’s CPI McDonald engine was built in 1963 and is the bigger version of the SPI model and a follow-on from the earlier CE. With the pressure injection the horse power was increased from 3hp to 6-7hp at 600rpm
Technical Specifications: Single-cylinder, 4-stroke, water-hopper cooled, horizontal diesel. Bore 4⅛” and 4½” stroke producing 6-7hp at 600rpm.
History: While the Brons injector system had served the C series engines well from 1918 to 1949 it was not without problems, which necessitated McDonald having to modify the injector from a 2 to a 1 pin injector rod. Eventually the Brons system was phased out completely and replaced by the better fuel atomisation of the Bosch system.
