The Cat 22 was manufactured in the USA from 1934 to 1939 and over 15,000 were built in 2 models – 1J and J. The Museum’s Crawler is a 1J model.
WA Distributors (1947): Wigmores Limited, Guildford.
Technical Specifications: 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine. Bore 4” and stroke 5”. Gears: 3 forward and 1 reverse. Output at belt was 30.7hp and at the drawbar, 25.26hp, at around 1250rpm. Weight 6,605 lbs.
History: This example was found at Beacham’s Farm in Pinjarra. The radiator was damaged while loading. To get it back to running condition, the engine cylinder head and magneto were overhauled, a new radiator and water pump pipe were fitted and minor adjustments were made to the transmission. Hugh Manning used the crawler for another 10 years, clearing light scrub with a 12-furrow Sungeneral twin-disc plough. The tractor was repainted for the 1986 Perth Royal Show where it was part of an award-winning Bunning’s display.
